Austria and other countries...not sure

I have planned many trips, both for myself and others, however I am very confused.

My DH is going to Graz, Austria for business. Others will be going and taking their Sig. others. He will be in Graz for 5 days.

Me and the others wives will have the opportunity to explore Austria. Then my DH and I are going to take extra days to explore. We will have about 11 days or so to spend....we are leaving our 14 month with the Grandparents...so ......

I was thinking of flying to Amsterdam, then going to Austria via rail??? then Austria for a week, then maybe Switzerland. Not sure, maybe even Germany...

What ideas and suggestions can anyone give. I am very confused.

We are going to go soon too...like the first week of October.

I would certainly go to Prague (Tcheck Republic). It is one of the most beautiful places I have visited and fairly close to Viena by train.

What's so special about Amsterdam for you? You're already in the best place! I would go to Südsteirische Weinstrasse, cross the alps at Eisenerz, Burgenland (Rust), Pressburg (Bratislava), Prague, Munich, Garmisch, St.Moritz, Bozen, Lienz, Grossglockner back to Graz.

Why would you want to go to Amsterdam, when there's so much to see right where you are??

Graz is in a beautiful area of Austria. If you drove perhaps 2 hours northwest thru the mountain valleys, you'd reach the Danube, in the area of Melk, Durnstein, etc. An easy drive from there east to Vienna. Maybe another 1-1/2 hour drive to Budapest, a REALLY beautiful and vibrant city. Also Prague. Also Bavaria. Nice time to go, grape harvest, wine festivals, et al.

You'll reach Melk via Eisenerz (don't forget to tour the mine). Tomboy is 100% right!

I really did butcher my spelling, didn't I? Of course, it should have been "Czech Republic", and not "Tcheck" (but then, English is not my first language...)

Thats o.k., others do it on purpose, even though they know better. ;-) "Bretschesgaden" is one of those...

Thanks for the input. We are not going to go to Amsterdam...too far, not enough time. I believe we will be in Austria, Switzerland, and Germany Frankfort area.

I would like to stay in a castle in one of the locations...any recommendations?
