Austria and Hungary

This summer I am planning to visit Austria and Hungary. What did you like best about these countries. What are some places you would reccomend my friend and I not to miss. Are there any anti-American sentiments in these countries due to the Balkan wars? thanks for your help.

I was in Austria (Fall of 1998) and really enjoyed Hallstatt - a beautiful little town on a lake - gorgeous setting. Bertchesgaden (actually in Germany, but we didn't know that until after we left there) is another pretty town (we were there on a Sunday morning so everything was closed). We then took the bus ride up to Eagle's Nest - if it's a clear day, the view is gorgeous (it was pretty cloudy the day we went, but we got a couple of minutes of clear weather). Eagle's Nest is a former retreat of Hitler's (he was only there a couple of times though) and is now a restaurant. Freistadt (close to the Czech border), Bad Ischl and St. Wolfgang are also neat little towns. Hope this helps.
Enjoy your trip.

I also liked Hallstatt. Salzburg is great. Vist the Ice caves at Werfen - only problems are the tour is in German and you need to remember to dress warmly. Salt Mines at Hallein are also a must. Also enjoyed Bad Ischl and VIenna

Bernard: I just returned from Budapest yesterday, and we encountered *zero* problems in regards to any anti american sentiments. We spent a ttl of three weeks in europe in the czech republic, austria, germany and of course Hungary. The ONLY thing we saw was a small group with the down with nato signs by the Charles Bridge in Prague. Unless the war escaltes, you should have no problems.

Rod
