Austria: A Trip Report
 

Hi everybody, here's a report on my recent trip to Austria with my husband. If you are travelling to Salzburg and/or Vienna, this may be of interest to you.

Thanks Suja. I don't normally make my way through reports to be honest, but I was in Salzburg for a day last week so I took a look. Some of your pictures haven't appeared yet.

The place was crowded of course and there was some rubbish being hawked from the stalls, but overall the place is delightful. Put 'Mozart' in front of anything you sell and add a few euros.

The egg shop was selling Easter Eggs. They hang them up all over the place. Did you visit the Christmas shop opposite?

Indian food? What was it like? We spotted an Indian restaurant in Salzburg too.

If you want to avoid a boring motorway drive and have the time I recommend the Grossglockner pass south of Salzburg. Stunning.

Easter Eggs in September ? That's why I was confused !! I did visit the Christmas shop and it was so pretty !! We ate Indian food in Vienna and it was quite good. Being a vegetarian, I normally head either to a Pizzeria or to Indian / Asian restaurants where I am sure to find some choice.

I looked at some of your pictures, will look more tonight at home, and I'm jealous, you had blue skies! I was just in Salzburg in the beginning of September and it was cloudy the whole time. It was so overcast that I could barely see the mountains around the city.

Would like to find out what kind of souvenirs you found in Vienna that are special to the area.
And the name of the Indian restaurants you ate in Vienna. Just curious.
Also you mentioned you enjoyed the Sacher torte. So, did you taste other cakes and which one was your favorite?

Thank you so much ileen and Leely2, very kind of you :) I do enjoy writing up my report for my family and friends but post them here as well in case its useful for other travellers.

For ileen :
Unfortunately, due to the very short time we spent in Vienna, I didnt get a good browse of the shops. I ended up picking some small thing from the Schonbrunn Palace souvenir shop. The Scahertorte was delicious. I recommend going to the Sacher Cafe to eat the original version (close to Albertina). Visit Demels on Kohlmarkt 14, they were the royal confectioners. You can see the pastry chefs at work as the kitchen is glass fronted. Its an art form for sure !! We tasted a couple keeping waist lines in mind, but everything looks delicious.

The Indian restaurant was called Kohinoor. This is their website : http://www.restaurant-kohinoor.com/welcome

I use Windows Live Spaces for my blog but I have used Blogspot before and I liked it too. What I like about Spaces is that you can construct your pages offline using the freely downloadable tool called Windows Live Writer. Then its a very simple matter to publish it online. All you need is a Windows live password. Have fun :)
