Austria

Hello all , we are a family of 9 (1 infant) planning a trip to Austria in August 1st wk for 7 nights . We are confused between which Cities to go . We are looking for a luxurious vacation and don't mind some crazy parties for the wkend, we would like cover 2 cities max 3 .
We are not much of explorers but would like to indulge in fancy restaurants and hotels.
Would really appreciate if someone could advise suggested Itineraries.
Thanks in advance

Why just Austria?

Vienna and Salzburg (or Linz). If you do Salzburg, definitely do the Mozart dinner at St Peter's Keller: http://www.stpeter-stiftskeller.at/e...rt-dinner.html

Why just Austria?

Probably because with 9 people, it's logistically easier to limit yourself with travel and lodging.

Thanks Sparkchaser, can u pls suggest the main area where we can book our hotel in both the cities.
Also pls mention if any preferred 5 star property .

Will you have a car or will you be using the train to get from city to city? Are you flying in and out of Vienna?

Will be taking train as a big group & yes in & out of Vienna .

It sound as if you haven't done a lot of research for this trip. Austria is not exactly a hotbed of "crazy parties" as would be Mallorca, Ibiza, some of the greek islands, perhaps Berlin or Prague.

Vienna is an old imperial capital and the people tend to be somewhat more reserved and formal than are those in areas specializing in teen/2s parties at sumer beaches or winter ski resorts.

Strongly suggest you get a couple of guide books and read them to get an idea of what you want to see/do - although your vacation is almost upon us.

At such a late date not sure how many luxury hotels will have the room for such a large group. How many rooms are you looking for - 4 rooms with a couple in each?

And it would help to have a budget - I know people sometimes say there is no budget but have almost found out that there actually is when they see the prices of the best hotels in town.

Suggest you look at:

Vienna:
Hotel Imperial
Hotel Bristol
Le Meridien

Salzburg:
Hotel Sacher
Goldener Hirsch

In your other post you asked about Portugal or Croatia and what was a better party place.
I think this is a troll.

Thanks for your suggestion nytraveler , MarthT because of such late bookings couldn't find reasonably priced air connection / properties in Croatia . And also being a family trip thought Austria would be a better option .

Well if properties in Croatia are too expensive not sure those above will meet your price needs.

A possible train route:

Salzburg
Bus/train to Hallstatt for an Alpine Wonderland
Train to Vienna
Do a day trip by boat thru the Wachau Valley just west of Vienna - train to Melk, visit famous abbey- get off at Durnstein - cute old wine town with famous dungeon where Richard-the-Lion-Hearted was once held for ransom when nabbed returning from some Crusade- bus or boat to Krems - trains back to Vienna - buy all inclusive ticket in Vienna for trains, boat and abbey admission:
