Australian's first time in Spain - Any tips?

Arriving in the Costa da Sol early August with family from England, first time in Spain and staying at somewhere called Calahonda. Any info on what's good to do and see around the area would be greatly appreciated. Read a posting re a trip to Gilbraltar can this be done in a day (or two)? We are staying in Self Contained Villas and are renting cars so will be able to get around, by the way whats the driving like? left or right hand side of the road (cuse my ignorance) etc?

Calahonda is a small coastal town near Motril, 100 km west of Malaga (the capital of Costa del Sol).
To Gibraltar is abt. 250 km and I don't know the actual situation of the roads, but it used to be a very long drive when we were there (1987), especially the last part between Estepona and Gibraltar.
Driving in Spain: right hand side of the road, in Gibraltar left hand side.
Liz,
The information in my former posting was not correct: Calahonda is 100 km EAST of Malaga.
Sorry.

Hi Liz,
My favorite town, Nerja, is nearby. E-mail me if you would like recommendations. Also Grenada is a short drive and the Alhambra is worth a visit. Driving is easy with well marked roads. Have fun!
