August Weather in France & Italy

I suspect the weather will be VERY HOT the 1st couple of weeks in August in the South of France & Milan. Just how hot will it be?

I think you should be prepared for the possibility of 30-40 degrees C (86 to 104). Probably least oppressive RIGHT AT the seaside (in south of France) - - or in higher elevations (i.e., lakes area, north of Milan towards Switzerland).

Best of luck!

Rex

We were in Italy last August and found Tuscany to be quite tolerable, but then we were staying at a wonderful agriturismo with a beautiful pool...we would get an early start, tour some great place in Tuscany, eat a fabulous lunch and head back to the pool to swim and snooze. Idyllic! Evenings were lovely, even without A/C. Rome was another story...I would never go there in August IF I had another option (my kids are still in school so there I was) Not only was it HOT but there is so little relief...even though our hotel had A/C, it didn't "crank up" the way they do in the US. And almost nothing else has A/C, including (to my great surprise) the Vatican Museum. But we drank TONS of water from all those wonderful Roman fountains (with no problems), carried umbrellas and just took it easy. On the advise of others, we didn't even attempt Pompeii because of the heat.

Thanks, I was afraid of that. We are from Texas, so accustomed to the heat, although we have air conditioning everywhere here. Fortunately we will only be in Milan for a few days before a cruise to S. of France. I'll be sure to take a hat & lots of sunscreen.
