sorry, I didn't see your post. I think it would depend what size that room at the Millennium is, but my priority is that probably I would not spend $1000 for a kitchenette or something. Since that's a 4* hotel, you will have a minibar. I am not big on staying in when I'm in Paris, though, I like to be out in the city.

I just noticed the comments on franceforrent and maybe we are looking at different things, but that apt. is larger than the one on bienvenueaparist, not smaller. It says it is 600 SF and the other one is only about 520 SF.

Here's what I would do. Since you're already breaking the trip in "the middle," I'd stay at the Millenium for the first bit (assuming you think you can manage in that space. You haven't told us the bed situation or whether you know how big the room is. I also haven't read reviews of the hotel but I assume it's nice.) Given that it includes breakfast, the only thing that's really at question staying in a hotel vs an apt is lunch & you'll probably be out.

I never liked the idea of the Citadine apt. I find these places a bit depressing. To me, the idea of an apt. is spending more time there. Why spend more time in a very basic place? I frankly might look for a hotel with a swimming pool for the 2nd part, or an apt. in a different area(when you'll feel more confident about everything).

PS-I forgot to mention I found a website a while ago jack-travel.com
I have no real personal experience using his info/listings but I noticed many of the hotels he recommends are the same places people recommend here. So...there are at least 3 different website links for apartments on his website. You can even fill out a form with your requirements (dates, neighborhood, price, accomodation, a/c etc.) & they'll get back to you. In your position, I'd give it a try & I'd say either for the whole time or just for the 2nd half to see. If you stay at the Millenium at a great price, maybe splurge for the 2nd half (Residence des Arts?)

Glad you got the rate at the Citadines!

Okay here is how I look at it. Do you want front desk service, maids, room service, public areas etc? Then go for the hotel or Citadines.

Do you want to shape your own experience and be on your own? Then go for the apartment. If you do the apartment you will have more of a feeling of "living there" during your stay. You can go shopping at nice grocery stores and cook a bit. Trust me, dinner out in Paris is lovely but the French like to dine and virtually no restaurant will have you in and out in an hour. With an apartment you can just go home and cook something easy and relax over a nice bottle of wine. You will possibly meet your neighbors and get a more personal experience that way. You will create your little habits in your neighborhood. Of course you are much more on your own and it would be for the independent minded.

The Millennium hotel sounds lovely but I keep thinking small small small. As in a bed for you and your spouse and a roll away for your daughter. I picture you stumbling over each other with no privacy and getting very tired of it at the end of two weeks.

The Citadines is fine if a bit pricey in my opinion considering that I didnt not find it upscale. The furniture feels like that of maybe a holiday inn or homewood suites to me. The kitchen area is very small. I like the location and it is very new but when my mom and sister stayed there for a week it had just opened and was around 160 euros with a much better exchange rate at the time. It will give you more space than the Millennium and more privacy.

If it were me I would go with the apartment. I think it would be a more exciting experience. You may want to check www.newyorkhabitat.com . I looked at them when I moved to Paris for a furnished temporary apartment while I got settled but finally didnt use them because they could not show me the apartment ahead of time and I found one that I liked that I was able to visit. I think there are some fees involved with them beyond the rent so you may want to read up. If after looking the apartments look appealing it would probably be easiest to e-mail them with your requirements and they will let you know what they have. I dont see a way to search for AC on their site. I cannot comment on their reliability as I ended up not using them but I did like their selection and prices.

dear socalfam
We are also on the search for apt. with a/c but looking for one week 8/21 through 8/28. If you have not already booked a place try these apartments. My daughter and I spent hours yesterday searching-
www.vrbo.com look at numbers 34050, 36071,2164,4036,32061,21652.
On rentparis.com look at #7
We are considering 36071 or 32061 on vrbo.Best of Luck.

Everyone - your advice is much appreciated. Am still exploring the various options. Annecourt- I'll check out your leads when I have some time. Merci and good luck to you too.

Epi- I have some more questions for you. Rather than post them all here, since you previously seemed open to direct e-mail exchanges, would you be so kind as to send me an e-mail at [email protected] so I can get your e-mail address discrertly? I'll e-mail you back with the questions. Thank you!!
