August in Bologna
Hi - my husband, 7yr old daughter and I are planning spend 4 days in the Bologna/Modena area the 3rd week of August (heading to Tuscany the following week). Since we are doing the countryside thing the following week, I'm debating on whether we stay in the city - however, I know that the cities are probably somewhat deserted/empty during the summer? Any suggestions on whether we stay in a hotel in Bologna (ie, will there be enough to do/see) OR whether we stay in an agriturismo outside of the city?
If an agriturismo, any suggestions for one between Bologna and Modena, ideally with a pool. My husband is checking out Maranello (for the Ferrari museum, surprise, surprise!) which is why we're trying to keep it midway between those 2 cities. Any tips much appreciated -- this is our first time in the area (my husband has been to Italy but not here) |
Perhaps a good suggestion: AGRIFONTANINI www.agrifontanini.it
On the hill, with swimming pool. Otherwise, if you do not like, there are several smart solutions closer to the towns and in their centers, also. Vincenzo |
WE did both last summer. We began in Bologna and stayed at Hotel Europa which is in town but on the outer circle. They offer free parking and could leave the car in a locked area but had access when we wanted. The breakfast and staff we delightful.. There is much to see and the portico made it cooler for walking. The hotel is about 10-15 minute walk but there is a bus close by. I don't know if Modena is a city that does or does not allow cars. Great small museums, food markets near Via Clavatura and the small room left side in the back of theSan Petronio Basilica in Piazza Maggiore is most amazing place. There are replicas in wood of the church your daughter may like. We visited Maranello from Parma on afternoon and it was an easy drive so from Bologna is closer. Hope you have agreat trip

Thank you Suz123nj and Vicenzod!
SUZ123NJ -- Question about staying in Bologna in August -- did you find that there was stuff to do and that the shops were open in the city? I checked on Hotel Europa and the website said garage parking was available but for a fee? You had mentioned that it was free -- which is a definite plus so just wanted to confirm. Did you use the hotel's garage or someplace else? VICENZOD - I emailed agrifontanini and waiting for a reply. Problem is that we are doing a shorter stay (only 4 nites vs 1 week) and we are only 3. Their accommodations are for 5+ people. Still, it looks very good and I'm waiting to hear from them. If you have any other agriturismo suggestions, please send them my way! Thanks again, Baileysmom2 |
I can suggest you AGRITURISMO CAVAIONE very close to Bologna, but there is no website.
