Julie - wow - yes I cut my beer teeth on Gobel's and Stroh's - well Gobel's tells how old I am - and Altes too. Stroh's is no longer a Detroit beer, plant closed down and now owned by Miller and though you see it rarely here in stores no one drinks it.

I always have a Eurailpass when traveling because I take so many trains in different countries so that's why I took the train but I can see the bus being a good option as well.

and Bratislava seemed so so cleaned up - except the yes rather dumpy main train station - I loved the street food kiosks just outside it - with peasant types selling many snack foods cheap.

Most trains from Vienna actually go to a remote station a few miles from the town center on the wrong side of the Danube - making the train less convenient if they go there - in a newish area of tower blocks and blah development.
