The official Pompeii website offers audio tours of varying lengths (2, 4, or 6 hours). We are trying to decide whether to hire a private guide at the site, or, use the audio tour. Would love to hear from others who have used the audio tours and can comment on the experience and/or have used the official guides that you can hire on-site (not private tours outside of the official site).

I used one of the audio tours and thought it met my needs very well, but then I had read a lot about Pompeii in advance of my visit.

We also used an audio tour - think it was a 2 hour but cannot swear to that - and found it quite adequate.
