Aubignan, Vaucluse, France: A nice town, a good base?
We are leaving for Europe on Oct 6. We are thinking of renting this simple, modern villa on the outskirts of Aubignan, just 5 minutes N of Carpentras: http://www.vrbo.com/358803
I've been in that area a dozen times but I can't remember Aubignan. I can't find out much about it on the internet. Does anyone know this town? Has it any appeal, charm or amenities? EG: Any restaurants? (PS: I have an especial loathing for traffic-choked Carpentras, so would prefer not to have to drive there for dinners.) |
Hmmm.. a slow night on Fodors?

They make it sound rather attractive + historic -- but if you do a 'street view' on google map, it looks rather dreary. I'm conflicted...
|
...over the years we've driven though Aubignan and environs
many times and all I recall is a bland flatness. Oh, and a fella who sold vegetal soap from his garage. With so many sweet villages in the Vaucluse why settle for Dullsville? |
We will stay near Taulignan, SE of Nyons, instead.
I know the area and it is quite pretty. Interesting place called La Chapelle en Provence, a converted chapel with bi-level rooms, taking advantage of the high chapel windows. A downstairs sitting room and upper mezzanine for sleeping. Then we'll head to Uzes (as cigalechanta already knows) to stay in this wonderful house for a week. We knew the former owner slightly. Fellow Canadians have bought it and rent it out when they are not there: http://www.vrbo.com/337917 Thx for the advice and assistance |
The house in Uzes looks great; I hope you will report back after your stay there.
Bon voyage! |
Two of my favorite towns.

Ted, it's too late now, but, I stayed here with my Mom two years ago. A luxury B&B. The attraction for me (apart from the beautiful surroundings) was that we were close to Orange, Vaison la Romaine, and all the lovely Cote du Rhone wines.. but also not far from the lavender in July.

Ted: LOVE Uzes! hope your great looking house is successful for you. stayed nearby twice and have such good memories! Bon voyage!

Flygirl: "Luxury" is right. That place is lovely. Very much the area where we were looking, before we decided to return to Uzes.
We spent a week in Seguret, near Vaison la R., a few years ago but that place is under renovation, hence unavailable. We've also stayed on the southern edge of Orange, at a place called the Chateau de St. Aries. And near Pernes les Fontaines, at Althen les Paluds. All great locations. |
I have stayed in Althen les Paluds. Where did you stay? Our B&B there was beautiful as well.
