Aubignan or near Crestet?
Anyone know Aubignan area? Deciding between 2 chambre d'hôtes
Is Aubignan area as attractive as area below Crestet? Seemed to save some driving time in Aubignan : plan to visit cotes du Rhone area as well as Gordes ,et.al. Towns. 1 week in September Thanks! |
We've driven through Aubignan a couple of times in an effort to cicrle around Carpentras and "miss" the commute traffic back-up. The area is not as "green" and scenic as Crestet - but still nice. It will save you 15-20 mins on the drive to Gordes, and there are better restaurant options around Aubignan than Crestet.

IIRC, Tedgale asked about Aubignan on this site. At that time
I said I thought it was quite a boring area - especially in comparison to most other places in the Vaucluse. I would stay in the Crestet area for sure - great wine villages all around and the Dentelles... |
Thank you Stu and imimi
Yes, I read tedgale post, but as Stu said, shorter drive I know area not as "green", but was debating sacrificing view for commute time Restos not impt once we get "home" , as we don't eat dinners out, just lunch, Preferring to relax with wine over dinner at home with view after full days So, if only short saving of drive time, guess Crestet will be more scenic I had debated since Crestet one had 50% deposit as bank transfer now and other place didn't Any others or more from Stu please, considering this info? Thanks as always!! |
>>Preferring to relax with wine over dinner at home with view after full days<<
We do that 3 or so days a week. We've stayed in Gites or apts in France for 89 weeks. There is an OK grocery store in Malaucene on the east side of the "main" road going north (alternate road south) just on the other side of the parking lots & outdoor cafes. There is also a nice farmers market in Malaucene on Wed morning. There are several grocery stores just east of Vaison on the D938 to Nyons and a farmers market on Tuesday. From Crestet, the best route to Vaison for "visiting" is the D938 and then the west branch of the Y south of Vaison, & on to the D975. The east access is not scenic & a little bit too far away from the Medieval & Roman sections of Vaison. Boring is a good description for Aubignan. Stu Dudley |
