Attractions/Museums in Scandinavia - Which ones to make advance reservations?
 

We are just over a month away from our trip to Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. June 19-July 6. I may be triggered a bit by our trip last fall to Italy's major cities, where desired attractions absolutely needed to be nailed down with time-and-date specific tickets purchased well in advance. This time, as I scan various museum websites, it seems as if tickets are much more readily available, but there's always the game of balancing not wanting to be tied to a particular time schedule far in advance vs the disappointment of walking up to an unexpectedly filled block of time.

Our hotel stays in Scandinavia: Copenhagen (3), Århus (2), Malmö (1), Stockholm (3), Oslo (3), Bergen (3). We are traveling by train or air between cities. We lean more toward the palaces and castles than the modern art museums, and are often content to walk or bike and admire the architecture or natural surroundings in lieu of inside tours, but do want to be able to hit the top spots without running up against an already-booked afternoon. Which ones in each city would you make sure that you reserved in advance for this time of year? Sorry to leave the list-making so wide open, but don't want to restrict your thoughts...

And, another layer makes things a bit tricky, too: We see the advantage of the official card for many of the cities, offering admission and/or transportation. But not every attraction makes it clear how to combine your advance purchase of a travel card along with a purchase of a specific date and time for admission. We welcome anyone's thoughts on how you handled this in the major Scandinavian cities.

PS Right now, the only for sure reservation on our calendar to make (next Tuesday early AM!) is the Anne Frank Haus in Amsterdam https://www.annefrank.org/en/museum/...e-your-ticket/ where we have an overnight layover on our way home. Might possibly be time for Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum, too, but only if our flight from Bergen comes in on time (12:30 pm).

I'm confused, I'm sorry. You say your hotel stays are in Scandinavia but then you mention Amsterdam as well?

In Stockholm, consider reserving the Vasa Museum.

I must admit that with so little time in Copenhagen and in Stockholm, I think you would do well to think through your priorities and book as much as you can in advance.

I'd also note that the idea that you might be able to visit the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum only if your flight is on time makes no sense to me -- each of those museums EASILY merits several hours.

1 night in Amsterdam - air travel layover - at the end of a 2-1/2 week Scandinavian romp.

Just sort of a bonus gained from picking the 24 hr layover vs the 9 hr layover.

And, several hours in each makes no sense to us. To each their own, I guess.

Your suggestion on Vasa Museum is more like what we’re looking for. Thanks for the confirmation.
