Attire while visiting churches ....
 

Having been to St. Peter's, I know that one must wear the proper attire when going into the Basilica.<BR><BR>Will be visiting many churches and chapels in Venice, Florence, Milan and other parts of Tuscany. Can a guy get into the churches wearing shorts without being quickly escorted out?<BR><BR>Appreciate your comments.<BR><BR>Bob

You could possibly go into a church in shorts and with your hat on your head, but why would you want to? If you are in a city like Florence, why not wear a lightweight pair of trousers and look normal?

Bob, I have no idea. But you might consider buying a pair or two of those cargo pants with the zippers on the legs that can instantly turn a pair of pants into shorts.

I am afraid that you better wear trousers when visiting a church in Italy (and specially in Venice). Also avoid sleeveless tee-shirts. This is another reason for exclusion! It also helps, I think, reducing the number of visitors (crowds) at the major churches of touristic interest.

Why would you want to wear shorts in a cathedral? Would you wear shorts to church in the USA?

i can think of nothing more classless (not "American", just plain pig-like) than standing outside of a church and zipping up bottoms to my stupid yet versatile shorts. As a practictioner of social nudity I enjoy swimming and sunning without anything on but i do know when to wear clothes and don't fight "for my rights" when confronted with these situations. <BR><BR>Oh, i also use a fork and knife (albeit in the European fashion) when eating most food even though i could just reach into my plate and put the food into my mouth.

I had problem in St Peter basilica only. No shorts allowed. The other churches don't allow short sleves, but allow shorts.

Do you wear shorts to your community church?

Well, when God creates you, JP, you ARE naked, are you not? Don't know of any already-swaddled, or fully-clothed babies emerging from the birth canal, do you????

Funny,when Bob and others go to church in the US,do they have to ask how to dress?<BR>Why do they think it is different in other countries?<BR>It is called showing respect.Wear a shirt and a pair of trousers/slacks.

Usually those new creations are not in a church.<BR><BR> Most churches are or were places of worship. Whether they allow shorts or not, it shows respect and good taste to be covered (unless, you are under 25 and gorgeous and want to the world to know it).
