The ASUS is just what I need for my trip in 2 weeks but has it even been released yet? Can't fiqure out where I can buy one.

Will the 2gb of built in ram be enough to run Streets and Trips and will Streets and Trips run on something (like the ASUS) that doesn't come with Windows?

This sounds like a neat little machine.

For those who cannot find things in the article with the Ctrl-F function:

"Asus does not include Windows XP, but claims that XP has been tested as working."

Eee PC 701
Storage: 2, 4, 8 or 16 GB flash Solid state drive

Eee PC 1001
Storage: 8, 16 or 32GB

Perfect! Thanks Robespierre. I just looked at the specs on Gizmondo.com, now, when does it come out for purchase? It looks like they keep pushing the release date back.

Gee, Robbes, where did you come by your warm and nurturing personality?

I did, in fact, read the whole article but I'll ask the question again: "Will Streets and Trips work with 2gb of memory and will it work without Windows?" It was an honest question.

Since you seem to know all that can be known, I thought you might have an answer. Instead you fire a cutting shot at me. And I wasn't even trying to bait you this time.

But now I also have to ask: Will the ASUS fit in my shirt pocket like my Garmin Nuvi 370? Oh, wait a minute, the article says the ASUS is about 9" by 6.5" - not a highly portable GPS device.

And, while I'm at at, if you promise not to tell anyone, Robespierre, I'm going to let you in on a secret: Apple is hard at work on a sub-notebook. Given Apples' reputation for innovation, it's bound to be very cool.

I'm off to research my trip to Croatia next summer. . . .

And where can this laptop be purchased now for that price? - Seems to still be a future product to me - so if you are in the market for a GPS now you may need to get something else to run it

I emailed the company on Friday asking about it. I will let you know their reply as soon as I receive it.

It looks like they keep pushing back the release date. The last I saw was October, though some are saying that it will never be released, and not at the low end price as it was a way to up their stock values. Who knows. It would be perfect for traveling, web access and light computer work. as far as using only for GPS, who cares. Specs make it just a great overall portable.

I agree Cherrybomb - I have a HP Jornada - lovely little thing - reasonable sized keyboard - superlight weight, sturdy etc. I wish they had decided to keep and update that model.

This is the email I received from the company

"Australia wont have this for a few months"

Australia???

Not sure where they got that I never stated where I am from. Anyway I emailed them back asking when it will be released in the states. As of now it's not looking so good.
