Attention any Air France passengers..

Anyone flying with Air France today or in the next day or so...

Part of a ceiling collapsed at the new terminal 2-E in Charles de Gaulle airport this morning at 7 AM. There are five dead - including three policemen, and they believe, more trapped under the rubble. Most AF flights leaving the airport this morning have been cancelled.

For those who speak French, you will probably find more information later today on the news website www.tf1.fr

UPDATE:

You can find information in English on
www.sky.com/news - they're giving it pretty extensive coverage on television this morning.

Apparently this new "Air France global hub" operates, for the most part, European flights, including many from Great Britain. The police are presently saying that no passengers were injured when the portion of ceiling collapsed on a waiting area near one of the gates.
Air France has cancelled some flights, moved others to Orly and has reopened Terminal F.

Actually, 6 people are confirmed dead so far and 3 others injured. This is a terrible accident, no doubt due to faulty construction of this new building.

Terminal 2E mainly handles intercontinental flights, including many to the US. I imagine the terminal will remain closed for the foreseeable future, so be prepared for additional delays at CDG.

I hope heads will finally roll at ADP (the company that built & operates CDG) - they are so incompetent it's now criminal!

I believe that the area which the roof collapsed was housing the departures lounge for two flights - a flight to New York, and a flight to Prague. These are obviously unconfirmed reports at this stage, but www.bbc.co.uk/news should keep you well updated.

My thoughts are with the families of those involved.

If you read French here's a good report of the "run-up" to the collapse.

We were at cdg airport friday afternoon, transferring from our venice paris flight, en route to Montreal.....
This is horrible news, I am astounded there are not more deaths, the montreal paris flight that leaves at 5:30 p.m. usually lands around 6:30 a.m. at cdg....
