ATMs with Visa PLUS in Rome
 

Heading for Rome this week.(Currently in Sorrento.)
So far in our travels through Italy, we haven't seen an ATM that displays "Visa PLUS" logo.
Does anyone know if they exist here?
Have seen them in other countries we have visited, and used them successfully, many times.
This week, I enquired at a ForEx outlet in Florence, and the lady there said I could get money from her using my Visa Debit Card - I did so, and found that she had added 145 Euro as her Fee for providing me with my own money from my own Account !!! She didn't tell me of this Fee until I asked at the end, what the additional figure on the paperwork she printed out and gave to me represented - she then said it was her Fee !!! Daylight robbery !!
I don't want a repeat of this - any suggestions on how and where to access my own money without such 'rip off' charges? (I haven't had this problem before in other countries.) That's why I was looking for the ATM with "Visa PLUS".

Have you tried using the ATM card, or just looked for machines with that logo and assumed you couldn't use your card in one without it? Because your ATM card is probably completely usable at any of the gazillion ATM machines throughout Italy.

my fee from Banco Di Roma for 500 euro was
a flat 5 euro.As you found out avoid money changers

So ATM or inside big banks only to change for me.

I can't remember when I last looked for Cirrus or Plus symbols on an ATM, and my debit card has worked in every machine I have tried to use. I stick to the major bank ATMs, and try to use one at a branch that is open. :-)

My experience is the same as Heimdall's -- I never looked at the logos on my card or on the bank ATMs and always got my euros without hassle (and without cost other than the miniscule addition to the exchange rate, always within 1% of the interbank rate).

I have used Debit cards with MC or Visa logos. I never bothered to check the decals. I got money from most machined I tried.

Why not just go ahead to try using a ATM machine others are getting money from?

Most banks in Italy subscribe to both the Visa and MasterCard networks, there are at least four in Sorrento that I have used with a Plus card. I never look for logos just insert the card.

Well thanks everybody for your positive information.

I will try 'an ordinary' ATM when I next need some cash.

Yep, have to go along with everyone else, regardless of the country, I just find a bank, stick in the card and out pops the money...in almost every case.

The only weird one I had was when my PayPal debit card would not work, but my daughter's would. She was on the same account, same number, same pin. Her's worked, mine did not. All PP could tell me was, "sorry, better luck next time".

If your Visa card is from any major bank it should work at any ATM - we don;t look for symbols and have never had a problem getting cash. If, on the other hand, it is from some obscure, local
credit union - then you my have a difficulty.

I don't think Australian cards are quite the same as US cards, but hope it works in the ATM.

We are in Rome right now and are using our UK Visa debit card from HSBC with no problem. Havent even looked to see if there was something on the bancomat that says they accepted it...
