ATM's in Romania?

Hi fellow fodorites, Everywhere that I’ve been to the past few years, (Greece, Spain, Portugal, Hungary, Czech Republic, Germany and France) have all had a plethora of ATM’s available. My question is how about Romania? I know from previous posters that Warsaw and Krakow in Poland have ATM’s, but I haven’t seem much re Romania.
We’ll be spending most of our time in the Transylvania area.
Thanks for your help.
Art

Take a look at

www.inyourpocket.com

for some Romanian information; also, Master Card has a web site for finding terminals

http://www.mastercard.com/atm/

Just because a site is listed does not necessarily mean that there is money in the machine (take my word about this).

I only know about Timisoara - and there are a few there located at banks. I would recommend having AMEX and Mastercards available.

Have a good time!!

dc

I can only be sure about three more towns in Transylvania: Oradea, Cluj and Brasov. And of course in Bucharest (the capital. Where you plan to travel? I've lived in Brasov for a number of years in the past, maybe I could help with some info.

Just got back from Romania: Sighisoara, Brasov, Sinaia and Bucharest. ATMs are everywhere with lots of millions (1 US$ = 29,000 Romanian lei).

The ATM locator for Visa/Plus is http://visaatm.infonow.net/bin/findNow?CLIENT_ID=VISA

My experience in Macedonia is that machines on the mastercard/cirrus system are much more widely available.

The comment concerning existing vs WORKING ATMs is well taken. The one PLUS machine in Skopje last summer was in our hotel -- and the system was always down.. being upgraded [that means down]. Fortunately I was carrying enough American dollars that I could exchange them instead.
