ATMs in Ireland
How available are ATM machines in Ireland? Had no problems in Italy and am wondering if they are readily available throughout Ireland? Thanks.

I remember using one in the Shannon airport, and probably used it in other places to get money. I don't think there should be a problem. Check with your bank or on the web for locations.

There is one at the airport. Most towns also have ATM machines. Ireland's main industry in tourist, so you will find they supply whatever the tourist needs are.

Mary Beth

Check out the follwoing Irish bank web sites for further details on ATMS - www.boi.ie or www.aib.ie - these are just 2 of the main banks - but they are the largest two. All main towns have ATMs. Just remember the operating hours are generally 10.00-16.00 - but in some town the abnks may open late until 17.00 (ie 5.00pm) somedays and close at 15.00 (ie 3.00) on other days, Hope this helps

Cathy

PS The Irish tourist Board web site is www.ireland.travel.ie

Mary Beth
Apologies for my unclear reply - just returned from a trip to Germany and the brain is not working properly.

Most ATMs are located outside the bank building - look for a PASS or BANKLINK sign. The opening hours I referred to are the actual bank opening hours - the ATMs are open 24 hours a day. There is a ATM at Dublin airport and Bureau d'Change as well (it opens from early in the morning to late in the evening).

Hope this helps

Cathy

My travelling companion used ATM's exclusively toget our currency this spring. There seemed to be one outside of every bank. Some small towns didn't have banks and so we needed to go to another town. Every time we went, it seemed like the armored car was makeing a pickup or delivery and the whole area was surrounded by army troops!
