ATMs at Glasgow Airport

I thought I posted this about 12 hours ago, but now I can't find it...

Does Glasgow International Airport have any ATMs that accept ATM cards in the Star/Plus network? The Visa web site doesn't list any. My (business) host wants me to take a taxi when I arrive, so I was planning to get pounds from an airport ATM to pay the driver. Thanks!

You did - you tacked your question onto a thread about how much £ to take on a trip. To find your previous posts just click on your name.

Hello,

I am a travel agent and I suggest using ATMs in Europe, regardless of their network affiliation, for small amounts of spending money for tips, etc. In most international departure terminals, there is usually an money exchange kiosk; they often have competitive exchange rates and I use them while I wait to board the plane to have a few dollars available when I arrive. I wouldn't use them to exchange all of my money, but it serves the purpose for the first few hours in my destination. You might also consider getting the minimum amount of traveler checks to cash in the airport for a newspaper, a pack of gum - to get the money. Use your credit card and then, just return the travelers checks for credit when you get back home to your bank.

I suggest using your major credit card for any more major purchases because the credit card companies give the best possible exchange rate to you on your purchase. Then, if you have a problem, you have some type of recourse with the retailer through the credit card company.

Please feel free to e-mail me if I can offer any assistance.

Best Regards,
Julia

Hi Linda,

Living in Scotland I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the Star/Plus network & so couldn't say whether the ATM's at Glasgow Airport would accept their cards or not. I have used my Visa card there, if that counts for anything.

I can confirm, however, that there is at least one - in fact I think two - staffed bank/exchange offices right next to the ATM's so you should be able to change dollars into pounds there if you need to. My only health warning over this would be your time of arrival in Glasgow as I'm not sure which opening hours these offices keep. If you're going to be arriving either late at night or very early in the morning you might want to check first to see if they will be open. I'm sure you'll find the details on the Airport website.

Hope this helps,

Jim

Last time I used one I noticed that the Glasgow airport ATMs are set to dispense Bank of England notes rather than Scottish ones.
This is handy - if you intend to go to England, English notes are easier to tender.

Hi Linda - me again

I didn't have much time when I posted earlier, but here's some more information.

Firstly here's a link to Glasgow Airport's website:

http://www.baa.co.uk/main/airports/glasgow/

I've checked & what used to be two separate bank/exchange offices have now amalgamted into one, which you can find in the main shopping area of the Airport. Their opening hours are 5.00 a.m. until 11.00 p.m.

Thank you all so much. My flight arrives around 8 a.m., so I should have no problem getting a few pounds. The exchange offices will be a good backup if the ATMs don't accept my card.
