ATM rules - ireland

Can anyone tell me if there is any limit on the number of pin digits, in using a ATM in Ireland, and if you have to have any specific designation on your account?

My ATM card has Cirrus and Star affiliations and I used it without problem or any transaction fees at the ATMs of several banks in Ireland. I have a 4-digit PIN and everything about using the card was just the same as in the U.S. (Except that at home I would pay fees for using other banks' ATMs.)

We returned last week from a tour of the West. Used my ATM everywhere without problem. You do need to have a 4-digit PIN. It might also be a good idea to notify your bank (as well as your credit card issuer) that you will be traveling abroad. Eliminates the possibility of fraud alerts.

Margaret, All Irish banks issue ATM cards which use 4-digit PINs so I'm guessing their machines are optimized to work with such cards, not sure if they'll accept anything other than 4-digits so it may be best to set up your card with a 4-digit PIN just to be safe. 4-digit PINs will definitely work.

Kay, Sue, and Kieran- Thanks for the help about the pin number. The concensus seems to be four four digits. Thanks again.
