I suggest starting a new thread for your particular question, with a detailed title.

Normally I bring the equivalent of about $25 USD in cash in the local currency with me but I have been known to show up empty-handed as ATM machines are more or less ubiquitous in all major airports these days. How much currency you bring is really a matter of your own comfort level. Some folks will advise you bring 100€ (or pounds, etc), while others insist on bringing hundreds more.

There was a Citibank with ATM in San Sebastian which leads me to believe that there might be more throughout Spain.

I also used a Citibank ATM at the Ataturk airport in Istanbul -- might be a good back-up debit card for international travel?

chef111: Call WaMu before you leave! Your card has been replaced anyway. Even if you declined to upgrade to a Gold Debit MasterCard, you will be receiving a new plain ATM card. I would hate to see you go before the new card arrives and have the one you were using end up closed...

As I stated in my earlier post I just got home from Ireland. I used my WAMU atm and debit card all over. They worked perfectly. I didn't go to the Belfast area though.
I did run into DCC. I thought I was so smart and my sister and I watched for it and asked for everthing to be in Euro. At one place they daid we had to be charged in US dollars and so we paid cash. But in the end they got me. We were at Durty Nelly's tavern in Bunratty buying t-shirts I bought mine first and everything was rushed by the merchant and I just signed and then right before my sister handed over her credit card I noticed mine was in US dollars and told her so she challenged it. But it was to late for me. So watch every slip and be sure to state you want to pay in Euro.

WAMU's ATM card will not work in Austria. It worked in Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary and the Netherlands.

Strange geography! Had WaMu confused Austria and Australia :))
