ATM in ROME
How accessible are ATM machines in Rome? Is there any at the Airport? I am worried about getting ripped of by the Taxi driver should that be a concern?
THANKS!
Yes, there are ATM machines at the airport. I flew Alitalia and right in the baggage claim area there was a machine that would take $US and convert to lira. It took some, but not all, $20 bills. Outside of the baggage area there is an ATM machine. I don't remember if the directions were overhead or I looked at a map of the terminal on the wall or if I asked someone. It wasn't difficult to find. I got $200 worth of lira and it was enough, actually, more than I needed for all week. I was able to use my credit cards for essentially everything except the smallest of purchases which were ususally snacks. Rome has many ATM's located all over the place, but I didn't need them. I found Rome ATM locations on the internet which were listed by Street.

Can't help you with the taxis. I would suggest you ask airport info or check on this forum or on internet what the fee is by taxi from the airport to Rome and then ask the driver his rate before leaving.

We had NO problems in Rome getting money from the ATM machines.

As for a taxi driver, I would recommend the train into Rome as it is a lot less expensive. However, if you have a lot of luggage, than that's a different story. We took the train in, then a local bus to our hotel near Campo di Fiori.

Found loads of ATMs all over Rome - there were several in Piazza Navona, for example. Had no problems finding one when I needed one and they were very simple to use.

When you talk about atms do you mean to say that i can use a check card and it will talk money out my checking? or is it only for getting money from ones credit card?

tia,
berto

Robertso, my definition of an ATM card is one you cannot charge with. You can only draw from your savings and/or checking account. Mine is from my credit union account. In addition to my branches of my credit union, I can also use any ATM with a NYCE or Plus logo.

With my credit cards, it is a cash advance. It has nothing to do with my savings/checking accounts.

I used the ATM in the hotel lobby in Rome and later in Athens. Also in Mexico on a number of occasions. Sometimes one machine will work and another won't so I use cash as a back up
