ATM fees

Do banks in the U.K. charge an ATM usage fee? I already know that our bank will charge a fee. From what I've been reading and hearing, the ATM machine makes the most sense for spending money.

Just back from London and the Southeast England, and none of the ATMs I used charged a fee. I used mostly Lloyds, which were available everywhere, but occasionally used others that also did not charge a fee. If your bank charges you for getting your money, you might think about another bank--but that's another issue.

I am an American who lives here (job), and I still have a Stateside account. I have found some UK banks that don't charge, but others DO charge an ATM fee, so beware!! Anywhere from $1-$2 per transaction.

I was in London and Stratford for a week in April. I used three different ATMs--one was a Lloyds, I believe, and the other an HST (?). No charges at all.

It's funny not to use traveler's checks (to me, anyway)--but ATMs, in conjunction with heavy use of my VISA card, worked great.
