ATM

HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM LIKE THIS?
WHILE IN IRELAND WE USED AN ATM CARD. ON RETURNING HOME WE FOUND THE NUMBERS DID NOT ADD UP, A $40 OVERCHARGE TO OUR ACCOUNT. OUR BANK SAYS THIS WAS A SERVICE CHARGE BY THE IRISH BANK. WE HAVE USED OUR ATM CARD IN EUROPE MANY TIMES AND THIS IS A NEW ONE.

Most people on this board would consider posting in capitals as akin to shouting. ((R))

yes - drop the all caps

If you used a bank's ATM then the Irish bank did NOT charge you anything. If you used a non-bank (commercial) ATM then there could be charges.

Could you be more specific when you say "overcharge"? Was this a specific line item on your account?

Sorry for the caps, is this better? I withdrew 80 euros and was charged $142.05, only on one withdrawal.

Yikes, that is a bad deal. Do you still have the receipt for the wirhdrawal?

Hi bernie,

Much better, thank you. All caps is hard to read.

If you used an ATM owned by a bank, something went wrong.

I suspect that you used an ATM that was owned by a money exchange firm.

Alternatively you, you were in Northern Ireland and were given pounds (that comes out pretty close).

Yes, I have the receipt. Community Bank Dublin. and it was euros.

P_M Jul 2nd, 2005 11:55 AM

This is a long shot, but it's worth a try. I would e-mail the bank in Dublin, ask why this happened, and ask if they will reimburse you. Scan a copy of your receipt and include it in the e-mail. If you do this, please post back and let us know how it went. Good luck.
