Atlas-Apollo Hotel in London

Hello,

Has anyone heard of or stayed at the Atlas-Apollo Hotel in the Kensington area?
Would like to know if this hotel is close to tube stations/buses?

Any info will be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Jocelyn

Jocelyn, the Atlas-Apollo is about 100 metres off the Cromwell Road, roughly half way between the Gloucester Road and Earl's Court underground stations. Maybe 10 minute walk to either station (Altho the hotel gives its nearest station as Gloucester Rd, Earl's Ct. is slightly closer.) Lots of buses on the Cromwell Rd, including Airbus to/from Heathrow. Cromwell Road is a major thoroughfare, so traffic noise is ever present.
Except for the dreadful breakfasts, I would place the A-A in the upper end of 2* London hotels - rooms are a decent size, with closet space, plumbing is fairly modern and works, as does the elevator.
The included continental breakfast comprises an orange-coloured beverage, warm water in which to soak a teabag or a sachet of instant coffee, and toast. They claim to also offer an english breakfast; the week I stayed there in April, they never attempted to sell me one and I never saw it ordered by any one else.

There is a large, modern Sainsbury supermarket on the Cromwell Road, which is a good place to pick up breakfast supplements and fresh sandwiches and other fixings for picnic lunches.

While it is hard to rave about the A-A, it is easy to do a lot worse in London for more money.

If you do stay there, some day when you have some time, use the Kensington High Street station instead of the two mentioned above - its not that much farther to walk, and it is a very pleasant neighbourhood to walk through - there is a pedestrian path out of Lexham Gardens at the north end.
