Doug: You might also want to check-out a post on the Frommer's Message Board (Italy). Scroll way-down to "Avoid Hotel Atlante Star in Rome!". The 2 responses this post received weren't very favorable either.
Regards, Walter
Thank you, Walter, for your prompt and helpful reply !!
I guess my wife and I are back to "square one" for a suitable hotel in Rome.
We are both "seniors" and don't need that hassle on our first trip to Rome!!
THANX AGAIN and any recomendations for other hotels with some "atmosphere" other than looking like a Holiday Inn would help!!

We stayed at the Ambasciatori Palace on the Veneto near the American Embassy. I believe it is in the same price range as Atlante Star. The location is definitely walkable to mainy of the historic sites and a short cab to the Coliseum. It is certainly in one of the prettiest and one of the only tree lined boulevards in Rome. The rooms were meticulous, with very crisp linens and huge marble bathrooms with great towel warmers and deep soaking tubs. The staff was a bit stodgy, but definitely helpful and the breakfast delivered each morning was homemade breads, jams and excellent coffee. This hotel is near the Borghese Gardens for strolling. We loved the location because it seemed close to everything, but less crowed than most of Rome. Good Luck, Ciao

Hi Doug: When I saw your post I remembered that post on Frommers and the 2 negative responses.
Have you tried a "Text Search" here on this hotel for other opinions from past posts?
You might want to post a seperate hotel quest question.
Mention your price range, when you're going (for off/on season prices) and what you are looking for (location, amenities [like an elevator, en suite etc], ambience/atmosphere, etc.). When you receive some hotel suggestions "text search" them for other opinions. Regards, Walter

I didnt look up the posts that were negative about Atlante Star, but we stayed there about two years ago and really liked it. We had a nice view of the vatican area and the breakfast was lovely in the dining room with the views.
Were the comments about the hotel or the service? Both were fine at the time.
