Athens transportation

cab from pier to hotel in Athens? Approimate cost and easy to find?

When I arrived at the port, there were many taxis but they were to pick people up and take them to specific hotels (I assume people who didn't have a reservation). After 45 minutes of trying, I talked my friend into taking the metro. Less than one Euro, clean and very efficient.

It depends where your ship arrives. Pireas is probably the biggest passenger port in the Mediterranean.
Some ferries berth close to the metro station, but others are further away. The terminal used by cruise ships is not near the metro station.

We took a cab from our hotel (The Titania) to the pier. It was a 20 minute ride and the meter showed 10.33. I gave the driver 13.33, thinking I was being generous and he insisted I owed him 14.33. However, when I wrote down his cab number he asked what I was doing and I replied that I was letting the hotel know he tried to rip me off. He immediately said no, no, this what you gave me is okay lady. You go. Keep that in mind!

we used Paul with www.greektaxi.com. We were picked up at Piraeus at 7:30 a.m., then taken on a half day tour of Athens. It was great- we got to the Acropolis before the crowds, and he took us to all the sites, parked, showed us where to go, and then waited and then we were on to the next place. Cost was 130 euros; money well spent.
