Athens to Ohrid
Hello,
I am arriving at Athens International Airport on a Sunday afternoon at 2pm and need to get to Peshtani in Ohrid by Monday night. What is the simplest and cheapest way to make this trip? Thanks! |
Not an easy task i think.....
The geographically nearest city to Ohrid is Florina, in Western Macedonia. From there you could reach Bitola perhaps by taxi, and travel further to Ohrid but there is just one bus daily from Athens leaving at 8 AM to Florina. Maybe you should be looking for a flight Athens - Skopje and make it from there to Ohrid. I checked some random dates, but couldn't find any direct flights.. |
I think the best way to get to FYROM from Athens, is by plane. Driving would take many hours, and I don't know what will ask you in the border as FYROM is not part of the EU. My advise is to take a dlight from Athens to Skopje. Or maybe you can take the bus from Athens to Macedonia (probably Thessaloniki or Florina) and then take another bus to get to FYROM.

There may be a Sunday evening bus Athens dp 20.00 to Florina ar Monday 4am
Otherwise travel via Thessaloniki: Local train from airport to Athens railway station, Athens dp 16.16 and 18.18 - Thessaloniki ar 21.39 and 23.41 Leave Thessaloniki by train at 7.14 and arrive at Florina at 9.47. Taxi to Bitola. Bus Bitola dp 11.03 and 13.15 - Ohrid ar 12.46 and 14.58 |
Alternative:
Plane (ATH dp 16.00, 200 USD/OW) to Tirana plus bus to Struga. Tirana bound bus from Athens to Gjirokaster and local bus to Korce - Pogradec |
There is just one KTEL bus from Athens to Florina, and it leaves daily at 08:00 hrs.
