Athens--To Do or Not to Do?

We are going on a cruise that ends in Athens. We have the entire day (and overnight) after exiting the ship.

Is it possible to see the Acropolis in the morning and hire a car to the Temple of Sounion in the same day?

I've not done both but have seen tours to Sounion that take four hours, so you should be able to do both. Morning is a perfect time to visit the Acropolis.

I agree with April, especially about visiting the Acropolis in the morning. It opens at 8 am; if you get there right when it opens, you'll beat a lot of the tour bus traffic.

You can do both as long as you get an early start. If you can hire a private car with english speaking guide you'll be much more relaxed.

We went to Athens last May and really enjoyed the Acropolis. I agree, morning is a good time. It gets very crowded in the afternoon (also very hot). For your trip to Sounion, consider hiring a private taxi. We found George, the English speaking taxi driver, on the website - www.greektravel.com. This an interesting site written by Matt Barrett. It's a travel guide to Greece and you'll find information on George and other interesting things on the site. Have fun and make sure you spend some time in the Plaka area.
