A quick question. I know May 1 is a holiday but would it be okay to plan on arriving Athens that day, to fly immediately to either Crete or Santorini? Flights should work as normal isn’t it? How about taxis at the other end?

If things could be an issue we’ll plan on arriving a day later. Thanks in advance for your comments 😊

May 1st is not only Labor Day in Greece, it is the day when many unions go on strike. Greek public holidays don't affect transport, but strikes sometimes do. Unless the Air Traffic Controllers call a stoppage the flights to Crete and Santorini will go ahead. I wouldn't plan a ferry trip for May 1st, though.

Thank you Heimdall, am glad I thought to ask. I think we'll now plan on flying out on May 1 to arrive May 2. We'll be flying to our first island, probably Santorini, no ferry. I was considering the overnight ferry from Heraklion to Piraeus on the return mainly to avoid losing a half day travel...

Thanks again!
