athens metro
Can we get from our cruise ship to the Acropolis using the metro? What are the schedules?
We will be there June 5th which is a week day. We will go in the AM. What time should we take the train? We are history buffs...so how much time should we plan there? Are there headsets to rent so we can do a tour on our own? Are there guides there for hire that will walk us around? How do we do it? There will be six of us. |
Any chance on Holland Am? The metro is a subway -- runs every few minutes. I think it is about a mile hike to the station. Athenswalkingtours.ge has some interesting walking tours. We are taking one of them.

Yes, will pretty darn close. I hope you are not planning to lug your luggage to the top of the Acropolis.
When I arrived at the Port two years ago, my friend insisted on a Taxi. Every taxi we saw was picking up individuals and taking them to specific hotels. We finally took the Metro and it was great. Google Athens metro and you should see the map. |
It's a longish walk (perhaps 15 minutes) from the cruise ship terminal in Pireas to the metro station, though there are frequent buses. The metro runs every few minutes from early morning till after midnight.
http://www.oasa.gr/index.asp?asp=tra...ex_grammon.asp Your best option is probably to buy a day ticket (3 euros, I believe) from a kiosk. This covers all metro trains, trams, trolley buses and buses in the Athens area. A good guide book will show you where to go. |
15 minutes is a long walk? As I said before it is about mile and we can easily walk four miles an hour so for us it is a not big deal.
