Athens in November
We're going to Athens for 5 days at the beginning of November (very excited - first trip abroad since Covid.....). We're staying at a hotel in Plaka. I have several practical questions:
Thanks! |
Let's try to answer:
1. Yes 2. Most restaurants don't request reservations. Just show the green pass and walk in. 3, not more than 10 per cent, up to a round figure. 4. No 5. No idea 6. Metro stations: You may have a look at https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopi...ns_Attica.html Most roads within Plaka go either upwards or downwards. |

Thanks for the information. Is Plaka very hilly? I am looking at a hotel (which I prefer) a little west of Symtagma square. I'm also considering at hotel near the Ancient Agora of Athens. Is that area flatter?
|
The Kolonaki neighborhood above Symtagma Square is up a hill but Symtagma itself is flat. Plaka is hilly.
|
Symtagma Square is flat but Plaka has hills. Ancient Agora is down the hill.
Pack rain gear as November days often get rain. |
Yes, I know that it can rain in November. I don't know why I thought Athens was flat. I checked public transportation and it's always a good option. I checked about the Metro stations and they all have elevators/escalators.

In response to question 5 -
In 2019 my friend had fallen (while we were there), hurt her knee and wanted to use the elevator. We were told that it was old and available on a very limited basis. We could not go up that afternoon but could return in the morning to use the elevator. We were leaving the next day. Here's the link to current information - https://bestravelinfo.com/acropolis-...olis-elevator/ A new elevator has been constructed but it appears the use of it is still very limited. "Please note that the elevator is strictly available to disabled visitors only. Also, we strongly recommend that you call one day before your arrival to make sure that you will be able to make use of the elevator. For any questions, you can always call: +30 210 3214172 or +30 210 9238470 Entrance to the Acropolis is free for people with disabilities, but if you need extra tickets you can book them now from here" If I were you, I'd take a car service or taxi up to the entry point, if possible. Not sure about the "if possible" part for disabled persons. |
Thanks for the update! I'll contact the site.

The Northern end of Plaka (around Mitropoleos street, between the metro stations Syntagma and Monastiraki) is rather flat. You find there many hotels, like Elektra Athens, Arethusa, Eelektra Mitropolis, Metropolis, Plaka.....
|
I'm sure we'll manage. Thanks.
