Most of the acropolis view rooms for my dates were either booked or out of my price range. Perhaps I started my search too late. I ended up booking this AirBnB: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/19669623 (Addr: Navarchou Nikodimou 4)

Staying in an AirBnB is a totally different experience than a hotel but I found several properties that have acropolis view and cheaper. I picked this one because it's managed by an agency that has mulitple properties and good reviews. And it looks like a vacation property, not someone's home. Personally, I find it weird to stay at a place that the owner currently lives in and just temporary moved out for the rental period.

The agency arranged to pick me up from the airport and check me into the apartment early, eventhough my fligt arrives at 10:30, way before the offical check-in time of 3p. Very good service. Will see how this all pan out.

i just googled 'athens fabulous view from our balcony' and a bunch of hotel reviews came up. the first, with a picture posted, was Athens Gate Hotel... maybe too late, though.

You can take a look at hotel A for Athens. Views are second to none, and a person I know was there last july, and talks marvels.
