Athens HOTEL near airport??

Besides the expensive Sofitel , is there any other hotel close to airport or within 15 minutes distance?!??

This is the only other hotel near the airport:

Hi,
If you go to the Sofitel web site they have nonrefundable deals for about 140 euros a night.

I was trying to book the Sofitel for the night of May 12, 2006 and the best rate I can get is 180€ (it will be just my husband and myself in the room).

Although... I suppose this isn't that much more expensive than staying in the Plaka for 145€ or more and then paying for a taxi to get me the airport at 5am for my 7am flight.

For what it's worth, the Sofitel is very nice (and quiet too) and extremely convenient. It's a two minute walk out of the front of the airport! Depending on the time of your flight and price of a taxi to a less expensive hotel, you may want to reconsider this hotel...

Yep, the Sofitel is always expensive, and the only other alternative is the Holiday Inn that others have mentioned. But I don't like either option because I am more interested in enjoying my last night out in Greece than I am in getting the most amount of sleep possible (this can be done on the plane back to the US!)

I like to spend my last night having a fabulous dinner sitting outside in Psirri and strolling around absorbing the sights and smells of Athens. This means a downtown hotel, not the Sofitel or Holiday Inn, both of which are interchangeable with any hotel anywhere and do not have that wonderful Greek ambience.

Since our US plane is usually around 6 am or so, staying downtown means we usually leave the hotel around 3:30 am, having arranged for a taxi with the hotel the night before. (You could probably leave later, but I HATE feeling stressed out in airports, so we usually give ourselves lots of time.) At that time of the morning, it only takes about 20 minutes to get from downtown to the airport, so it is pretty convenient.

So the choice: one last night of fun in Athens that may leave you a little tired in the morning, or a sterile hotel that could be anywhere in the world that lets you squeeze out 20 more minutes of sleep. You decide!

I have to agree with Eleni - forego a little sleep to be in a good location on your last night. The Sofitel is outrageously priced and a cab ride from downtown Athens to the airport is inexpensive and fast.
