hi,<BR><BR>i am planning a trip to athens next month and would like to stay around syntagma square. would like a nicer quality hotel like le meridien but not so pricey. anyone have suggestions for a 4 or 5 star type hotel?

The Attalos Hotel has inexpensive rooms and a great rooftop lounge with a spectacular view of the Acropolis.

I would suggest the Electra Palace in the Plaka district - more up market and more expensive than the Attalos but more convenient and with a nice rooftop pool.<BR>I have stayed at the Attalos and it is good value but basic. <BR>I also like the Athens Gate Hotel which is pretty central but not as convenient nor as good as the Electra Palace. <BR>

Has anyone stayed at the Marriott in Athens?

The Attalos is definetely not a four or five star hotel, but does sometimes charge as a 4 star one for somopoor and not renovated amenities.<BR>Electra Palace is stillunder renovation.<BR><BR>My suggestion is to try to get a direct rate :<BR> at the Herodion or the Divani near the Acropolis,<BR> the Omonia Grand at Omonia Square, <BR>In any case prefer a renovated hotel.<BR><BR>

Try the Acropolis Select Hotel. I stayed there i March. Not expensive, but very nice, and excellent location.
