ATHENS budget hotels

we are looking for a clean, inexpensive (100 euros or less), conveniently located hotel in ATH for 1 nightb (heading south to sail with out kids for 2 weeks) at the end of July. Bec. we have only 1 night, we'd like 1 that is near a metro or train station and within walking distance of the Acropolis. thanks in advance for your suggestions.

When the Electra Palace failed to honor a prepaid voucher, I found myself homeless for the night and ended up at the Pan Hotel which has a great location in the Platka. It was humble but clean and friendly. Breakfast was included all for only 70 Euros for the nite. I would stay there again, because they were so nice and it just fine....nothing fancy but fine!!!

Hi

We previously stayed at the Cecil Hotel - www.cecil.gr. Excellent location near Plaka, the Acropolis and the metro stop. Lovely neo classical building, clean spacious rooms, pleasant staff and nice roof terrace (no seating). It didn't bother me but if you're a light sleeper take a room off the street. Soon I will be trying the Attalos - www.attalos.gr - a few doors down from the Cecil because the roof terrace has seating. In high season I would advise to book ASAP for a good, inexpensive hotel.

We stayed in the Hotel Alma 3 yrs ago. It was 60€ a night then. Good location, but not a great hotel.

We just got back a couple of weeks ago. We stayed at the Cecil on the way through and at the Economy on the way back. Both were very clean and good location. The Economy was a bit farther from the Acropolis than the Cecil and a bit farther from the metro that is a straight shot to the Port but, still within walking distance. We liked the rooms better in the Economy but both were clean, spacious and a great deal for the money. (77 Euro/Cecil 65 Euro/Economy) We would definitely stay at either one again.

I would like to second the recommendation for the Attalos hotel. Stayed there last month--Metro stop is less than 2 min. walking distance; the Plaka is just beyond that. Very clean, inexpensive, free internet, great roof top views of the Acropolis. Ask for a room that does not face the street. When they talk about the "pulse of Athens at your feet" on their website, they apparently are talking about the constant hum of traffic on a very busy street! Even so, I'd stay there again.
