Athens & Santorini - is it enough?
I'm planning a trip to Greece in late Sept/early October. We'll have 10 days(could extend to 12). I'm planning a few days in Athens, then want to go to Santorini. I had originally been thinking Athens, Santorini & Crete, but my husband would prefer to limit the number of switches. Will just the two stops (Athens & Santorini) be give us enough to do? (We like hiking, museums/sightseeing, good food/wine, just poking around in stores, etc.) Thanks for your help!

You'll be able to power through Santorini's attractions in just a few days, so if you're not comfortable just relaxing and enjoying the beautiful views and the peace and quiet I suggest you reconsider and add another island to your itinerary. There are several islands no more than 3 hours away by ferry including Ios, Naxos, Paros and Crete. That late in the year it will not be a problem if you don't have reservations. You can just show up on an island and easily find something, or you can also call ahead from Santorini and make last-minute arrangements.

Thanks, Brotherleelove. I had a feeling that would be the suggestion. Nice to know that we can make up our minds when we get there, if we want to. I may have more questions for you later!

Hi Brotherleelove. Its me again.
Going to Santorini for a month?! Lucky guy...
Are you familiar with the owner (Rena) of Delfini Villas in Oia? I have emailed him/her numerous times for a reservation confirmation but no reply to date. We asked Rena to reserve a double seaview room for 4 nights (check-in Aug 30) & provided my credit card info. All I want is a confirmation & am anxious as we are hoping to celebrate our 5th anniversary there.
I don't mean to ask you to take your vacation time to help us, but if you are familiar with Rena and are in Oia, could you please inquire for us? My name is John.
Thanks.

We were in Greece for 10 days 2 years ago. You loose 2 days for travel so that leaves 8 nights. We stayed in Athens for 3, Paros 2 and Santorini 3. My husabnd didn't want to be on the move and this worked well for us. He LOVED it, especially Santorini. But 3 nights there was enough. Enjoy!

John, I'll try to help when I'm there but you should really try to contact Delfini by phone if you don't hear from them by email. I wonder if you might have an email spam blocker installed on your computer that's intercepting their emails back to you...........?
Let me have your email address and if I find anything out I'll let you know.

Hey Brotherleelove.
My email address is [email protected]
I considered the spam blocker thing but think its unlikely. Rena responded fairly quickly at first to my query on availability and rates. Once I sent him/her a formal reservation with credit card info...its been silence since.
Thanks.

dunia123,
Do a Fodors search on Nafplio/Nafplion (various spellings). Nafplio is a lovely seaside town in the Peloponesses, about 2.5 hrs south of Athens.
Two - three nights there could make a very nice counterpoint to Athens & Santorini.
Barrett's website has a decent blurb on Nafplio, except ignore his cranky first paragraph :
http://www.greecetravel.com/nafplio/
Definitely one should stay in the charming, Venetian "Old Town".

Brotherleelove.
Have a blast in Santorini (can't see how you wouldn't).
I think I've got things squared away with our accomodations in Oia. No need for you to take your time.
Thanks for all your assistance.
