Athens Airport taxis
I will be traveling with 2 teens to Athens and the islands this August. Should I prearrange a taxi service due to the busy tourist season.
Does anyone have any suggestions other than George who charges $50?
Thanks

There are plenty of taxis at the airport. Have the name and address of your hotel written down to show the driver. We paid 35Eu. from the airport to the hotel & 22.5Eu. to go back. Ask for the approx. rate from the driver at the airport. You hotel (even cheap ones) can book you with excellent tours & drivers. George & his drivers get a premium because of popularity & advertising on Matts web site. Two days in Athens is a plenty. The islands, there is not enough time. Enjoy!

Lots of taxis in the queue at the airport, but make sure yours turns on the meter. Athens taxi drivers are notorious for not doing that.

I'm just coming back from Greece. The easiest and cheapeast way to go from the airport to downtown is to take the E-95 bus (a few steps, on your right when you get out of the airport; very easy to find). It takes about 45 min and costs about 3 euros (2.95 I think; maybe they have a children's rate). I took it twice and never have to wait for it; they are frequent. It brings you right next to the botanical garden, closed to everything.

Nath

Yes I will agree that George's prices are a bit expensive. Look around on the web you will surely find drivers that are as good as George and less expensive.
