Athen's Airport Sofitel Alternative?
 

We're arriving at the airport at night on the last flight from Crete and refuse to pay the inflated price at the Sofitel,the only hotel at the airport. Considering that our following morning international flight leaves at 8:30 a.m., please offer suggestions.Thanks.

Either resign yourself to an uncomfortable night camping out on chairs in a quiet corner of the airport, or bite the bullet and stay at a hotel in town. The Attalos Hotel has reasonalby priced "basic" rooms and a nice nighttime view of the Parthenon from the rooftop lounge. Maybe you can find a hotel with a shuttle service, to make the inconvenience a little more acceptable.

Try the hotels in Glyfada which is about 15 minutes away.

Glyfada is ,....45 minutes drive from the NEW Athens airport!

Normally a greek travel agent should get for you a good rate at the Sofitel/airport.
Before rejecting the Sofitel option ,consider the cost of the taxis (40 us dol roundtrip )and the fact that you will have to be at the airport not later than 6 30 a.m(means you should leave your hotel at 6 a.m.)
There are no hotel buses/shuttles to/from the new airport

I paid 145 Euros for a single, stayed about 6 hours at the hotel but worth it instead of stomachache....

You cross the road and you are in the airport. Plus the hotel was beyond my expectations, very nice, clean....
