Athens Acropolis Restoration/Construction -- Finished or In Progress?
 

I plan to be in Athens in September and wanted to see if anyone knew whether (and which) parts of the Acropolis would be under construction/restoration. Thanks.

The main attraction on the Acropolis, the Parthenon, is still under renovation and there is scaffolding and heavy equipment all around the site. It's been there for years and will be there for many years to come.

There is apparently some chance of removal pf all or some of the scaffolding immenently, see this post on Trip Advisor,

Update on Acropolis works:


After more than 5 years, scaffolding at the Parthenon, Propylaea and Athena Nikis Temple will finally be removed. Removal is expected in less than 3 months.


Parthenon's North side ( the long side facing when entering the site ) was fully repaired.


Propylaea roof is already visible like Athena Nike Temple :)




Erecthion ( space beside the Caryatids ) is being cleaned. Visitors during the last 2 - 3 months may have notide the ugliest of additions besides the Caryatids, a blue black solid plastic cubicle. This is actually a room where no light can enter. Laser beam ( not kidding ) is used to remove dirt from fire and age / traffic, without actually removing the characteristic orange patina all the pieces have. wow :)

FWIW, when we were last there on Dec 8, 2008, two sides were still covered in scaffolding. Cranes were lowered on Sundays.

Other than the above comments, I have no idea what status will be in Sept.

There was scaffolding all over the Parthenon when I was there in 1972. Did they remove it in the interim?

yiassas - well, drat! Missed again. At least the sides facing our hotel didn't have any, so those views were pretty good.

Guess that means I'll have to go back! I LOVED Greece, every bit of it, would go back in a heartbeat, with our without scaffolding.
