A lot of us have stayed at the Hotel Attalos. Rates are very reasonable and we even had a room with a view of the Acropolis. Location is terrific - right near the Plaka. While the rooms are not 'special', they are good value. The hotel seemed very safe and we would definitely stay there again. They have a website, so if you do search on Attalos, you'll find it. We booked over the internet.

We stayed in 2000 at the Hotel Plaka for $75 a night. It is located in the Plaka, has a balcony for many rooms, air conditioned, a nice breakfast, clean, views from hotel windows, good location to get around from. Hotel can be found in different guide books.

I want to second Susan . . . we (two women, mid-50s) stayed there a couple of years ago and loved it! We had a view of both the Acropolis and Lycabettus Hill. The desk clerks were all very nice and helpful and the location was great!

We would definitely stay there again.
Yea Attalos!

Sandy

I stayed at the Royal Olympic Hotel. it's also near Plaka, and the front rooms have a wonderful view of the Parthenon. It costs about 120 dollars for a double room with breakfast. It's a 4 stars hotel, with a pool.

I have stayed at the Ritz; it's okay. Nothing to rave about but no complaints either. It's fairly conveniently located, and you can get a room overlooking the Arno.

The desk recommended a really good restaurant in the area; I think it was Maremma, or similar name, because they specialized in Southern Tuscan dishes.

Have fun.

Oops. So sorry. I don't know how this happened; I meant to post this on the question about Florence and the Ritz.
Dear Santa.... I was really dying to stay in Athens and find a hotel with a view of the Arno... now that would be one heck of a view:)!!
Secondly, we also stayed the the Attalos and really enjoyed it, for under $50.00 we had a fine b-fest, friendly staff and view of the Acropolis (The view rooms should be requested in advance) we also enjoyed the rooftop bar and got to see a spectacular lightening storm over the Acropolis while enjoying cocktails in an enclosed rooftop patio.

EEK! I didn't think mid-50's was "senior"!!!
