Athenaeum Hotel in London, any thoughts
 

Have a reservation at this hotel in August. Travelling with 2 kids. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I'm interested in feedback on this hotel, too. We're considering it for July, although Claridges once again offered a family special which is a bit cheaper. I just read in The New York Times that the Athenaeum is offering a special summer promotion in which they will match the Euro to the dollar for certain stays. Don't know if this applies to your August visit, but thought it worth mentioning. Good luck!

It's just another hotel, it's bland, a little faceless, a good position, and that's about it.

It quite simply isn't in the same league as Claridge's which is a landmark property, with fantastic drinking/dining venues, and service (usually) to match. If you can stay there, then it's one of my top recommendations!

It can't be a bad place to stay because Rudy Maxa was there on a London trip and he appears to be very selective in his choices of hotels. Looked like a nice place from a segment on his travel show.

I got a rate of 650us for a one bedroom apartment with apartment facilities but hotel amenities.

Will check out clardiges.

I just checked, and clardiges is a good deal. Any thoughts between the two?

You can't compare it with Claridge's. One's a landmark, one's just another hotel.

Take Claridge's, you won't regret it, and you might even bump into me over a champagne flapper or two.

If youw ant to stay someplace glamorous, then Claridges is for you. On the other hand, the Atheneum is quite comfortable, and an apartment would certainly be good with the 2 kids. Both are well located. We enjoyed our stay at the Atheneum, not being in the Claridges price bracket. Our room was of a good size and had a curtain that could be drawn between the foyer and the bedroom.

It's a little like trying to compare Evisu jeans to Dior Homme jeans.

Both are high quality products, just one has glamour and style, whereas the other is pretty standard and predictable.

I'm just sittin' here in central Canada, tryin' to compare Evisu jeans with Dior Homme jeans.

What fatal deficiency makes me unable to complete this presumably simple task?

Just for informative purposes:

Evisu have a standard baggy/boot cut with high quality Indigo denim, and 36" inside legs designed to be worn turned up. The product itself is made in Japan and is high quality.

Dior are very skinny jeans, also made in Japan, and with a long 38" inside leg. However, they have "cuts" (looks like stitched darts) and on the top righthand back belt loop a silver ring with CD engraved. The ring has no seam, and as a result has to be threaded on to the belt loop. The denim is either left raw or treated with lurex (glitter finish) or a dirty dye applied. In short, they're exceptionally detailed.

The Athenaeum is the Evisu - high quality, but nothing out of the ordinary in its price range. Claridge's - the Dior of jeans, with exceptional elegance, and class.
