Astoria Hotel Budapest

Can anyone give me information on past experiences at the Astoria in Budapest? The photos online looked like it was a historic building with character. Have I made a good choice?

Thanks for any input!

I stayed at the Astoria January 2001--great location, good facility, great staff. Ask about their various packages which include airport/train transfers, dinners, sightseeing, etc.

It was the headquarters of the Soviet army during the 1956 coup.

You forgot a couple of things about the Astoria:
The rooms are quite old (I mean old, not antique or pretty).
It's located at a busy (and ugly)crossing. (Busses, Underground, and trams.
Mc. Donalds is either in the same building or next to it.
If you need public transportation to anywhere in the city it is perfect.
The prices are OK, but not cheap.
They are friendly.
It is not a hotel that I would recommend.
I have the feeling that you will be disappointed.
Think about this, there are better hotels for the same price. Ask somebody who lives in Budapest.
We stayed there in 1989 when it was still behind "the Iron Curtain." I remember the best thing about it was the cafe. In those days we were adventurous and stayed anyplace; rooms at that time were OK for us. Now???
But I bet you'd like it better down by the river or at the Hilton up near the cathedral

Thank goodness we only stayed there one night last summer!Nothing special, service in the cafe/restaurant was terrible, our room was on the inside looked out on a dark yucky inner area. The bathroom flooded after taking a shower.I used the internet for 1/2 hour and was charged for the time it took to boot up -about 10 minutes! You can do better!
