Assissi & The outlets...daytrip possible?

I'm thinking about taking a day trip from Rome one day to Assissi. Does anyone know how far away are the Prada/Gucci outlets from these towns? Do you think we could fit everything in one day? What about a stopover in Orvieto?

In a word, no.

No to Assisi and the outlets (which are somewhere in the environs of Florence).

No to Assisi and Orvieto, unless you want to end up seeing neither.

I believe the outlets are about one hour outside of Florence??

If you have more time than you need or want in Rome you could do a day trip to Orvieto which would be lovely.

But I agree with Eloise re: Assisi, Florence or outlets in one day.

I should perhaps clarify:

Orvieto is a nice day trip from Rome.

Assisi is a possible day trip from Rome, if you are prepared to leave early and return late.

You cannot combine Orvieto and Assisi.

Sammyc: I just saw your post on one of the Rome threads.

You say you are spending four days in Rome. Surely that is not the extent of your stay in Italy!

Where else will you go in Italy? Perhaps Assisi will be easier to get to from one of your other stops.

I was just in Rome 9 months ago so I've seen the sites. This time I'm basically showing my parents the 'must sees'..... but after reading the replies from my post, I think we'll just stay in Rome and relax for the 4 days. You gotta balance the sightseeing with some relaxing time! Thanks.

and yes, we're going back home after Rome! My parents own a business and they can only close for the long Thanksgiving weekend...

IMHO you can skip the outlets--been there done that and wasn't at all impressed. Try to spend at least a day each in Orvieto and Assisi. Each is unforgettable.

Sammyc: If you only have the four days, I agree with you 100% to spend them all in Rome. Orvieto is nice but, in my opinion at least, taking a bit more time just to soak up the atmosphere in Rome is nicer.

I hope you and your parents have a great trip.
