Assisi/Perugia

Has anyone ever spent a few days in either place and if so at what hotels. Our tour ends there and my husband and I would like to spend a few days there or in some other area of Umbria.
Thanks in advance.

If you could post the type of hotel you are looking for, perhaps it would be easier to make some suggestions.

I stayed in Assisi twice, the last time stayed at Hotel Sole for 4 nights- a 2 star hotel in old town centre, clean room, simple and good food.

In Perugia, I stayed at Hotel Priori, another modest hotel in town centre. clean room, some with excellent views of the countryside.

I really enjoy staying at Gubbio-a less visited, but well-kept hill town, with the most impressive Piazza Grande.

Hotel Ideale, at one end of town (Assisi), has nice rooms, a private parling area, and a pretty garden overlooking the countryside.Rates were reasonable.

I stayed at the Hotel Umbra in Assisi - cute, right on the main square, nice views of the Umbrian countryside below.

We stayed at the Giotto Hotel. Quite old and the bathrooms were somewhat antiquated but I just loved every minute of staying there.

Little Juliet balcony that gave us a view over some of the old city and beyond.

I really enjoyed staying in Assisi very much.

Here is another vote for Hotel Umbra. It is very quiet, has nice restaurant in a courtyard, and roof terrace overlooking a convent. Great staff--would definitely stay there again. It gets good reviews in lots of guide books. We loved Assisi.

We were in both cities less than a month ago. And here's another vote for Hotel Umbra in Assisi, room 34 to be specific. I posted pictures on tripadvisor.com if you're curious.

As for Perugia, we stayed at Hotel Fortuna and were equally as pleased - big, clean quiet room (the hotel is a 15th century building and when it was turned into a hotel they made a point of keeping some of the old "bones" exposed - pretty neat), friendly staff, good breakfast, and perfect location just off the main steet. Perugia is pretty hilly so it's nice to be able to get back to your hotel backto put your feet up.
