assisi to venice
 

I want to travel by train from Assisi to Venice. I have reservations at the Hotel Flora in Venice. I don't know how to go about this. I imagine there are trains that connect thru Florence. Does Venice have more than 1 train station? If so which is the better choice and which is the best way to get to the hotel from the train station? Any info will be helpful.

You can check out www.trenitalia.com. The English version is inconsistent, so use the Italian version, being careful to type in the Italian names (e.g., Venezia).

I did the opposite trip last year (Venice to Assisi) You take the train from Assisi to Florence, then change trains to go from Florence to Venice. It's easy! There are a number of times to choose from.

Yes, Venice has 2 stations. I forget the name of the one that you want...but you dont want Mestre (sp)..that one is on the mainland and you would need to take another train to get across the lagoon.

You need to get a ticket for Venice Santa Lucia. (Don't go to Venice Mestre--it is on the mainland.)

thanks for the name of the Santa Lucia station. Now next question. I will be in Venice for 5 days and would like suggestions for museums and things to do and see. I will be traveling alone.

The list is simply too long, nanam, but here are just a few we enjoyed: travelling the Grand Canal by vaporetto; visiting via vaporetto Murano, Burano and Lido; the Guggenheim Museum and Ca Pasaro (sp?) for their collections of modern art; enjoying the music in St. Mark's Square late at night (touristy but wonderful); the Doge's Palace; the Accademia Museum; eating fabulous food (yes, we found some) and drink, and just sitting; and of course, walking, walking, walking. I made the same trip you have planned 2 yrs ago and also stayed in the Hotel Flora. I was traveling alone and had no problem finding things to see and do. The Hotel staff was very helpful with suggestions and making reservations when necessary. I suggest you get a porter from the vaporetto to take you to the hotel. They can find it easily and there is one canal that you have to cross which means climbing stairs not always easy dragging a suitcase along.
