Assisi place to stay

Can anyone recommend a nice place to stay in or near Assisi?

Palazzo Bocci in Spello or Genius Loci near Bevagna if you prefer rural.

Here's a link to my Tripadvisor report on the place we stayed at in June - http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserR...si_Umbria.html.

It wasn't brilliant but it was cheap, the location was very good and most other reviews are good - so maybe some rooms are nicer than others.

I wouldn't have wanted to stay outside the town.

When it comes to lodging in Assisi you want to stay IN town. This is a no-brainer, even less, if you have only 1-2 days to explore. Fortunately, there is quite a selection for a small town; some have amazing views. One of my favorites is Albergo Hotel Dei Priori. This hotel is located on the main street in the center of town, mid-way between the Cathedral St. Chiara and Basilica de St. Francisco. Great location. Their restaurant is also great and a good choice for a nice dinner. They also own a smaller hotel venue, Hotel Alexander, right across from the church built on the spot where St. Francis lived as a young man (I can't recalled the exact name of the church right now). One of the most dear memories I have of Assisi is waking up on a Sunday morning to the bells of this church and looking out the window with my Mom by my side. I want this to be my last thought when I leave this life; it was that special :-D. Have an awesome trip!

We stayed at a wonderful agriturismo just outside Assisi. We were just there for Labor Day weekend and had an awesome time. The breakfasts were wonderful and the evening meal(if you choose) was excellent.

We liked Hotel Umbra located in a quiet area overlooking a convent. The restaurant is very good also with nice terrace dining under a canopy of Loquat trees. It is a fairly inexpensive hotel and is in Karen Brown's Guidebook.

JoChandler,

In April we stayed three nights at Hotel La Rocca.

Our room was one of those in the annex, appeared brand new and was served by a nice glass elevator.

We thought the location was good, and the price was very good.

Enjoy Assisi.

We stayed at Subasio, Via Frate Elia, 2 Assissi I-06082 Phone: 011-39-075-812206 Fax: 011-39-075-816691. We had the end room on an upper floor with a large balcony outside and a terrific view.

Another vote for Hotel Umbra especially if you can get room 34. Huge room with windows on three sides for cross breezes (although it does have A/C). There are French doors that open onto a small balcony overlooking the valley below. Simply breathtaking! I'd love to go back.

We are staying at Hotel Berti in October. The reviews were okay. When we made our reservations the euro was 1.60 so money was a factor. Today it was down to 1.38.

By the way, what is your budget?

I recommended Hotel Dei Priori http://www.assisi-hotel.com/home-en.htm at an earlier post, which is quite a bit pricier than its "sister" Hotel Alexander at less than half the price.

When you stay in Assisi, make sure you leave enough time to go to the woods that St. Francis used to go to meditate in. They are magical.
