Assisi Budget Hotels

Can anyone please recommend some good hotels in Assisi for around L150,000 double? I did a search in this forum but both the Umbra & Dei Priori were too expensive (over L210,000), and La Fortezza never responded to my fax inquiry. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Good evening, Anne We can recommend
the HOTEL WINDSOR SAVOIA, it is a three
star hotel with 30 double rooms and located overlooking the large car park
and also a great view of the valley
below. We have stayed here about three
times in the past 25 years. It is a
very old building. Very airy rooms, al-
most sure all had baths/showers/WC...
The ristorante was very good for a
hotel, we did return for lunch only about 7 years ago and had a very enjoyable lunch. Check into www.
venere.it/ and into www.enit.it/
check database, hotels and 3 star (stelle) listings for Orvieto.
Also has an e mail address, fax, etc.
Richard of Hickory Hills, Il...

Anne,
I stayed at the La Fortezza in 1997 and would recommend it. We didn't reserve ahead but called from the station and were able to get a room. The clerk spoke English, so maybe you would have better luck phoning directly.

Thanks Richard and Anna. I telephoned La Fortezza as you suggested and they are closed until Mar 17; the Windsor Savoie had a fax connected to their telephone number so I suppose that they are closed as well. I guess I'll have to wait until mid-March to make reservations for our April stay-- Thanks again for your ideas.
We stayed at La Rocca (near La Fortezza) and loved it. Has only about 8 rooms, and very cheap if you get a room that shares one of the pristine baths. They also have very nice rooms with bathroom if you need private facilities. Cat
hmmm.. my post yesterday didn't seem to work..
Richard, thank you but I don't have a working email address. I did however finally receive a reply from Windsor Savoia and they are fully booked the night of our visit. pity.
Catalana, funny but La Rocca is another place that I tried to contact by fax. Perhaps I should try to give them a call.
So far the Albergo Italia (mentioned in Rick Steve's 1997 guide) has a room available. Has anyone stayed there?
Thanks to all for your recommendations.

Anne - I stayed at the Albergo Italia in October and it was wonderful. Very simple and perfectly located on the Piazza Commune which is the town center. I recommend booking it while you can.

Anne,

I took several weeks for La Fotezza to reply to my email. We are planning to stay there in Oct and they told me that it would be about L130,000 for 2 adults and a child. This includes a bath but no food. You may want to email them at the following...when will you be there?

[email protected]

Thanks Jim for the recommendation... we'll go ahead with that booking. Sandi we will be in Assisi in April so la fortezza's probably already full; nevertheless I've emailed them anyway. Thanks!
