Assisi Accomodations.

We are considering after leaving Pescara to spend two nights in Assisi..I never been there..any suggestions about a nice comfortable hotel close to the Cathedral?

Plan to spend from 100 to 150 Euros.
Also we will be there the first few days in October.

Thanks,.

The feast of St. Francis is October 4th-a major saints day in Italy-only St. Anthony of Padua comes close-there will crowds.

If you haven't changed your mind, Hotel Umbra, room 34 specifically, was wonderful. The view from the room over the valley lovely. It was up the hill from the Basilica of St Francis but there is a bus service if walking it is an issue.
As for the crowds, we were there on August 15th, another important holiday, and it was crowded in the Basilica (so much so that the monks were warning visitors to watch for pickpockets) but the rest of the city was manageable. We had no problem being seated at restaurants or visiting other sites or the shops.

I tried to book Hotel Umbra for Oct. 6, they are sold out all week I was told. I took a room at Hotel Sole for that night instead.

We loved the Hotel Ideale at the top of the town - about a 2 minute walk downhill to the town square. Even though the owner supposedly speaks English, we found no evidence of it <g>, but it is a perfect little hotel - nothing fancy, but beautiful views from each room.

I am waiting for Hotel Umbra and Hotel Berti to answer of my inquires about making a reservations for the dates that I want..
Hotel Umbra seems very nice, but the Berti price is much better considering that by Oct. 2nd I still have 8 days left in Europe.
The Euros is a little over 1.43..

I remember with Nostalgia the good old days when the dollar was worth something..Oh well, C'est la Vie.

Not cheap.

If you go to www.hotelscombined.com and search for an Assisi hotel room for your dates, there are many options, including some central ones in the 100-Euro range or less.

Another vote for Hotel Umbra if you can get it! We stayed there as part of our honeymoon...I remember the restaurant was lovely and the rooms well priced.

We were happy with the La Rocca. Rates were very reasonable, and our room was so nice.

It's just a walk down the hill to everything.

Ask for a room in the newer section. We were there for three nights in April 2008.

This past spring I stayed at the Il Palazzo and I really enjoyed it. The view - with balcony was just breathtaking!
